It takes energy to listen to a person. Don't be greedy with other people's energy.
If your rambling is instructive, you are treating the listener like your student, which is condescending. You'll be too busy with your lecture to notice them quietly deciding they don't enjoy your company.
Take turns being the listener. Limit yourself to a couple of sentences at time. Don't teach people things unless they ask.
